FROM THE BENCH & THE ALICANTE SHARKS, A WINNING LINEUP
Last Saturday, February 21st, From The Bench organized a special trip to enjoy a good game of American football between the Alicante Sharks and the Sueca Ricers.
About forty people, among which were colleagues, couples, friends and a few From The Bench babies, sat in the stands of the Estadio Municipal de Atletismo [Municipal Stadium of Athletics] of Alicante to enjoy an exciting game of American football.
It’s worth noting, above all, that the clash between the Sharks and the Ricers was the first charity match organized by the club from Alicante where From The Bench also participated. Everyone put in their part and collected almost 100 kg of food for the Food Bank of Alicante. In the end, it was all a success.
In regards to the game, the Sharks gave their all to show why they are the current leaders of the Eastern Conference in the Spanish “C” Series. They didn’t want to give the undermined Ricers a chance, and shortly after the starting kickoff, they already took a 7-0 lead.
Despite the threat of rain, which in the end didn’t affect any of the fans or players, we were still able to see many top-quality plays, like the Sharks’ second touchdown. It was a spectacular short run, after an interception on the Ricers’ offensive line which, after the extra point, gave the Sharks a 14-0 lead.
In the last quarter, the scoreboard updated continuously until stopping with the final result of 27-6, in favor of the Alicante Sharks.
After the sound of the final whistle, nobody from the trip wanted to miss the opportunity to appear in the post-game picture with the players of the Sharks. Afterwards, a few brave fans even asked about how and when they could try out for next season.
We shared a lot of laughs, we had a great lesson on American football, a great early afternoon snack of sandwiches, beer and refreshments, and above all, everyone from the From The Bench team showed just how much they enjoy spending time with each other.
GO SHARKS GO!
